Name: Iris
Series: Pokemon (Up and Down Nuzlocke)
Canon-Point: Pre-comic.
History: About seven years before the start of one Cecilias journey... there was an injured Axew, who was injured due to trying to battle a young Drilbur named Kumatora, who had a bit of a violent streak. If it wasn't for a man called Alder saving that Axew, it'd be dead by now. You may ask, what am I doing talking about an Axew? Well, just wait and listen (if your computer is talking this to you) and see.
That Axew was put in the care of the new gym leader, Skyla. And Skyla nursed that Axew back to health... and said Axew wanted to pay her back. So, she made the climb up Celestial Tower, rang the bell, and summoned Giratina. She made a deal with the beast - she'd get to be a human, as long as Giratina could take the life of that closest to her. The Axew agreed... and became a pure human, who Giratina dubbed Iris. Hey, he thought it fit. Of course, we're talking about Ben the Giratina here, and he had a deeper reason. But this is not an app for Ben. No, this is for that Axew-turned-person, Iris. Excited, she ran back to Skyla. Skyla was shocked, but took Iris in as a daughter. They grew together, Alder often coming to visit the girl as well. They'd never heard of a Pokemon becoming a human, though!
Fast forward five whole years. Iris was with her mummy, they'd just finished another trip to Hoenn. And then, it happened. Iris was the only witness to Skyla painfully (but oddly sexually) becoming a Salamence, right in front of her eyes. Ben had finally collected his payment, after Iris had made a connection with somebody. What a dick. Iris was broken - and she soon told Alder, who understood completly. He also told Iris the bad news - she had forgotten her old life. Iris never questioned how Alder could tell - and that'd be spoilers for him!
Anyhow, Iris soon grew to take over the Mistralton City Gym, as she decided her new life goal - to find a fix for what Ben did, so she could be with mummy Skyla again. And that's where I'm taking her from - some other world stuff is happening, but spoilers, and that's just background for Iris. Not important.
Personality: Iris is one of the happiest girls you'll ever meet (note that I said girls - Emmet is the happiest guy ever. Well, not in my comic). She's cheerful, enthusiastic... even if she can be a bit bratty at times. She knows that she's stronger then a lot of people, as a Gym Leader. Not as a person. She tries to cover her faults as a person by acting rather smug over those who she beats in battle, or those who she just sees making mistakes, easy to make mistakes or not.
This isn't to say she's just a smiling brat. Oh, no, she's actually rather broken up about what happened to Skyla, and blames herself. She still sees Skyla as a Mummy, as well as seeing Alder and Drayden like part of her family as well. And because she hurt her Mummy, she is sad inside. This has resulted in her showing more and more of a smile, trying to hide her insecurities about herself. Back in her world, Iris became rather overprotective of her Salamence, to the point of not using her in gym battles, and only training her when it was a sure win in one hit. While she's in this world, however, she'll feel really bad about not being there for Skyla.
Iris is also very trusting - the only people she won't trust are those that she's been pre-warned about by Alder. Like Ghetsis, for example. She doesn't comprehend the true form of just what's happening in her world - and she doesn't feel like she needs to know. She just knows that it's bad shit. However, she knows not to share it with people who are unaware of the old world, and she'll keep this promise to her grave. Or the end of the world. However, she is afraid of the Gym Leaders Curse, as she's dubbed it. Not that she'll explain it to anybody from other worlds.
Powers: Now, you may expect her to have special powers, seeing as she used to be a Pokemon.
Nope. When Ben gifted her a human form, he made her a normal person. So unless you count being adorable as a super power/power in general... nope.
Starter Pokemon: Woobat. I mean, look at her username. It's like I planned this.
Writing Samples
First-Person Sample: [So, on the network today... a crying girl. No, seriously.]
S-sob... has anybody seen a Salamence? She's about this tall - [she said, reaching one of her hands above her head,] - and she only listens to me, and she's really blue! She's my best friend, and if she's gone... sniff... then I would have let him win!
[And then a pause, as she wipes her nose. A few seconds later, she turns off the feed.
Only to turn it back on when she's more composed, a few minutes later.]
By the way! I'm the gym leader of Mistralton City - well, for now, anyhow! [Well, not one at all in this world. But. Whatever.] My name's Iris, and if I had my team right now, I'd be in the air looking for her - Salamence, I mean. She's also really cute! [...And now, for a questionwhich are totally arc words for the comic, so you get some spoilers early!] Have any of you heard of the world of old?
[And now she's turning it off for real.]
Third-Person Sample: Even though it had only been a day, already Iris was worried. She'd heard of a curse of the gym leaders, and she'd witnessed it first-hand before... was she now being affected, being dragged to another world? Was she just another victim, forced to be absent from her home while everything was growing worse and worse? It had happened before, after all, to another...
As she wandered the paths in Nimbasa, Iris couldn't help but worry more and more. Even as her Woobat flew around, pressing its' nose against every object around, she couldn't smile.
But then, she paused. If this was part of the curse... if this was part of it, then why didn't she hurt? That's what she'd heard would happen from Uncle Alder. This didn't hurt, this wasn't something awful or something like that. And anyhow - they were working on repairing the place, the Entralink thingie. Who even used that, in her world? Other then Cecilia.
But then... why did Iris feel worried? Why did she feel homesick? Was it because Salamence was gone? Or was it something else? Shaking her head a little, Iris turned back to Woobat.
"Oh, Woobat?" she said, her frown vanishing, replaced by a smile, "I know what we should do! Let's make some new friends! From here, I think that Route 5 would be the best place to go!"
With a determined nod, Iris started to walk in that direction. Not only would it be a good place to find a good friend, it was the way to get to Mistralton City. And if she got there... she could see for herself, if this world was cursed like hers. And she could explore on the side - she'd never been out here before, after all!
